Blizzard was selling skin in Overwatch 2, but announced a free giveaway 24 hours later

Blizzard is once again at the heart of an Overwatch 2 controversy. The studio sold the Cyber DJ Lucio skin for $19.99, only to reveal a day later that it would be available for free. The skin was offered to Twitch viewers who watched a dedicated Overwatch 2 event stream for one hour on February 12th.

This sparked outrage among players who had already purchased the skin. This isn't the first time Blizzard has sold cosmetic items and later offered them for free, leading to widespread calls for refunds. While the Cyber DJ skin has been removed from the store, Blizzard hasn't yet addressed the refund requests.

The timing of this controversy is particularly sensitive, given Marvel Rivals’ success and the competitive pressure it places on Overwatch 2. In response, Blizzard announced a special Overwatch 2 Spotlight event on February 12th to showcase revolutionary gameplay changes. This event will feature reveals of new maps, heroes, and other content. Blizzard will also host prominent streamers at their headquarters to offer an exclusive preview of upcoming updates.
