Firaxis Games' creative director, Ed Beach, urges even seasoned Civilization players to utilize the tutorial for their initial Civilization 7 campaign. His Steam post highlights the game's significant departures from previous installments, particularly the new Ages system (Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern). Each Age concludes with a simultaneous Age Transition for all players, involving civilization selection, Legacy retention, and world evolution – a completely novel feature in the series.

Poll: Favorite Civilization Game

Beach justifies the default "Small" map size by emphasizing its suitability for learning the game's complexities, particularly the revamped Diplomacy system. Managing relationships with a smaller number of opponents simplifies mastering Diplomatic Influence. He also recommends the "Continents Plus" map type to ease players into ocean exploration, a crucial aspect of the Exploration Age.

The tutorial is automatically enabled for first-time players, and Beach strongly recommends experienced players use it for their first full campaign. The tutorial offers timely tips and explanations for new mechanics. While veterans might dismiss the tutorial, the significant system overhauls warrant its use. The game features four Advisors, each guiding players through specific game aspects; Beach suggests focusing on one Advisor at a time.

Even after mastering the core mechanics, Beach suggests switching to the "Only Warnings" setting. This allows Advisors to alert players to potential setbacks, a practice even the Firaxis development team employs.

Firaxis recently revealed Civilization 7's post-launch roadmap during a livestream event (note: Great Britain is DLC). Civilization 7 launches on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on February 11th, with Deluxe Edition access beginning February 6th.
