Cyberpunk 2077's development history includes an ambitious, ultimately scrapped, lunar DLC. Dataminer SirMZK unearthed compelling evidence from the game's code, revealing CD Projekt RED's vision for this cosmic expansion.
Leaked files contain references to lunar surface maps, detailed locations like an "Exterior Movie Set" and "Drug Lab," and even a rover model. The Moon location was planned to be enormous, potentially a quarter the size of Night City, offering a fully realized open-world experience far beyond the game's familiar neon-drenched streets.
A key element was the "Crystal Palace," an elite space station. While cut from the final release, players can briefly see the Crystal Palace in one ending sequence viewed from a spaceship window. Further leaks reveal a zero-gravity bar prototype linked to a removed quest, "201," connected to the Arasaka storyline.
Hope remains that some of these concepts might reappear in CD Projekt RED's upcoming "Orion" project, intended to expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has yet to officially confirm the reuse of any of this scrapped content.
The cancelled Moon DLC remains a tantalizing "what if," showcasing a daring expansion into unexplored territory, seamlessly blending space exploration with Cyberpunk 2077's distinctive cyberpunk style.
