Screenshot by The Escapist. If you’re new to Dead Sails, fear not. This game, much like its predecessor Dead Rails, is refreshingly straightforward – you sail in a straight line, covering 10 thousand meters between towns, with the ultimate goal of reaching 100k meters. The key? Keep moving, ensure you have enough fuel, and stay alive. Simple, yet challenging.
The in-game lobby before you embark on your journey can be a treasure trove of useful items, albeit at a cost. As a new player, you start with 15 Dabloons, the game's currency. While it might be tempting to spend these on boats or items like bandages and weapons, you'll find plenty of these in-game. Instead, use your Dabloons wisely to set yourself up for success.

The gameplay may seem simple, but you'll encounter intriguing structures and fend off undead creatures along your journey. Here are essential tips to master Dead Sails.

While you could theoretically complete the game by buying 5 coal pieces per town, there's a more engaging approach. Collect items marked as "fuel" which increase it by 5%. More importantly, utilize the corpses of the undead you defeat – they're a significant fuel source.

If that's not possible, buy Barbed Wire from a shop to mount on your ship, deterring mobs. Without Barbed Wire, pause your journey and actively defend against approaching creatures.

As you progress and face stronger foes, consider upgrading to firearms. A shotgun is highly recommended for its substantial damage output, ideal for unexpected encounters. Alternatively, the revolver is a good early-game option to familiarize yourself with firearms, commonly found in buildings.
