CD Projekt Red, the studio behind The Witcher 4, has warned players about widespread scams involving fake beta test invitations. On April 16, the company posted on The Witcher’s official Twitter/X account that they’ve received multiple reports of fraudulent invites.

The statement emphasized: "We’re actively working to remove these misleading messages. If you encounter any suspicious invitations or related announcements, please report them immediately using your email provider’s or social platform’s reporting tools."

The developer clarified that legitimate beta tests would always be announced first through official channels, including The Witcher’s verified social media accounts and website.

Initial Announcement Came in December 2024

The Witcher 4 debuted during December 2024’s Game Awards with an unveiling trailer starring Ciri as the protagonist. This decision sparked significant community discussion, marking a departure from Geralt’s traditional lead role across the franchise’s previous three installments.

In a subsequent VGC interview, Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed fan reactions to Ciri’s central role. He acknowledged Geralt’s legacy while reassuring players their narrative choices would be justified in future reveals.

"Our primary objective is to demonstrate how Ciri’s story offers compelling new possibilities," Weber explained. "This creative direction wasn’t decided lightly—we’ve spent years developing her expanded role."

Executive Producer Małgorzata Mitręga thanked supporters of their narrative decision: "We respect every fan’s perspective, knowing it stems from genuine love for the series. Ultimately, the game itself will best address any concerns when it launches."
