EA's Skate Adds Microtransactions Pre-Release

EA has introduced microtransactions to Skate during its latest alpha test, setting the stage for an upcoming release date announcement. As reported by Insider Gaming, developer Full Circle has implemented these microtransactions in the ongoing closed alpha test of EA's free-to-play Skate revival.

Players can now spend real-world money on a virtual currency known as San Van Bucks, which can then be used to purchase cosmetic items. Full Circle aims to refine Skate’s microtransaction system, emphasizing the importance of a "positive experience when purchasing items from the Skate store." They have encouraged testers to provide feedback to enhance the experience at the game's early access launch.

Insider Gaming also noted that Full Circle has informed testers that all progress will be reset before Skate enters early access. However, any purchases made during the alpha test will be converted back into San Van Bucks, which will be available again at the start of early access.

Skate’s early access launch is scheduled for 2025. The project was first unveiled during EA Play back in 2020, when it was described as being in the "very early" stages of development. Since then, Full Circle has maintained engagement with the community through closed playtests and regular updates via their "The Board Room" video series.

In 2022, the developer officially confirmed the game's title as 'skate.' and announced that it would be released as a free-to-play title on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
