As anticipation builds for more information on Grand Theft Auto 6 following the release of its first trailer in December 2023, fans are eagerly awaiting further updates. However, a former Rockstar developer has suggested that no additional trailers should be released before the game's launch.

Rockstar Games broke records with the viewership of GTA 6 Trailer 1, yet no further assets have been released since. The prolonged wait has led to a flurry of conspiracy theories among the fanbase, ranging from analyzing details like the number of holes in Lucia’s cell door, bullet holes in vehicles, and even license plates. The most notable theory, the ongoing "moon watch," successfully predicted the announcement date for Trailer 1, but was later debunked as a clue for Trailer 2's release.

The burning question remains: when will GTA 6 Trailer 2 be released? Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, hinted that fans might have to wait until closer to the game's scheduled release in the fall of 2025 for another glimpse. However, Obbe Vermeij, a former Rockstar technical director who worked on the series until GTA 4, stated that if it were up to him, he would not release any more trailers.

Vermeij argued on Twitter that the existing hype around GTA 6 is sufficient, and maintaining an element of surprise would amplify the game's launch as a major event. He even suggested that announcing just the release date without additional trailers would be a bold move. Despite this, the naming of the first trailer as "GTA 6 Trailer 1" implies that more trailers might be on the way, though plans can always change.

Vermeij also shared insights into Rockstar's past decision-making, recalling the delay of GTA 4 in July 2007, just months before its planned release. He speculated that a similar "decision day" for GTA 6 might occur, with potential updates possibly coming around Take-Two's August earnings report.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick emphasized the unprecedented anticipation for GTA 6 and explained Rockstar's strategy of releasing marketing materials close to the launch to balance excitement and anticipation. This approach, he noted, contrasts with competitors who announce their release schedules well in advance.

Mike York, another former Rockstar animator, discussed on his YouTube channel how Rockstar's silence fuels community speculation and conspiracy theories, which in turn create buzz and engagement around the game. He suggested that Rockstar is deliberately not announcing the release date for GTA 6 Trailer 2 to maintain this tactic, which encourages fans to engage and discuss the game actively.

While waiting for GTA 6, fans can explore IGN's coverage on various related topics, including an ex-Rockstar developer's thoughts on potential delays, Zelnick's views on the future of GTA Online, and expert opinions on the PS5 Pro's capability to run GTA 6 at 60 frames per second.
