For those needing a refresher, here’s Netflix’s recap of the original Happy Gilmore:
The original Happy Gilmore ended with Sandler’s character finally finding peace after a whirlwind golf season (and a memorable brawl with Bob Barker!). His mission: raise money to pay off his grandmother’s back taxes. This unlikely golfer took the Tour Championship by storm, showcasing his unorthodox style. He made friends (like Carl Weathers’ Chubbs Petersen) and enemies (Shooter McGavin and Bob Barker), but ultimately triumphed, saving his grandmother’s house.
How Happy Gilmore 2 will resurrect his golf career remains to be seen, but one thing’s certain: Happy Gilmore is a legend, even among the world’s best golfers.
News of Happy Gilmore 2 first broke in March 2024, with Netflix officially ordering the sequel in May. The film is directed by Kyle Newacheck, from a script by Sandler and Tim Herlihy.
