In *Avowed*, keeping your arsenal and armor upgraded is crucial for surviving the escalating challenges you'll face. Initially, you'll encounter Common, or Level I, weapons and enemies, but as the game progresses, you'll need to step up to Level II, where Fine gear becomes essential. Here’s how you can acquire Tier II/Fine weapons and armor in *Avowed*.
While some gear will naturally spawn or be available for purchase at Fine Quality, other items will require upgrading to reach this level. In *Avowed*, the effectiveness of gear is measured in two ways: Quality and Levels. Quality is indicated by a descriptor, color, and Roman numeral. Common gear, marked in green, is labeled with I, while Fine gear, in blue, is labeled with II. Within each Quality, there are three additional upgrade levels ranging from +1 to +3.
To elevate your gear from Common (I) to Fine (II), you need to visit a Party Camp. Each camp features a workbench where you can enhance your weapons and armor. You'll need to progress through the +1, +2, and +3 levels sequentially, with each level requiring specific materials based on the gear type. Once you've achieved the +3 upgrade, you can then advance to Fine (II) status. This final upgrade necessitates Adra, a rare and valuable crystal obtained through Quest rewards, purchases from Merchants, or by dismantling Unique items.
Upgrading gear can be resource-intensive, but there are alternative ways to acquire Fine (II) weapons and armor within the Living Lands. You might occasionally stumble upon Fine (II) gear in Dawnshore early in your journey, especially from defeated Level II enemies or Bounties. However, using Common gear against these tougher foes can be risky, so stock up on health potions to stay safe.
Fine weapons and armor are also available for purchase from certain Merchants in Paradis. Access to Paradis becomes available to the Envoy soon after defeating the Dreamscourge-infested bear boss in Dawnshore, early in the Main Quest. In Paradis, you'll find a pair of sister Merchants near the Bounty Board. Merlylin specializes in magical items like grimoires and wands, while her blacksmith sister offers a range of standard weapons and armor (as shown above) at the adjacent stall.
And that's how you can secure Fine weapons and armor in *Avowed* to keep your character well-equipped and ready for battle.
