Get ready for an enhanced gaming experience with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, set to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. This special edition not only includes the original game but also comes with Switch 2 enhancements and the added feature of Zelda Notes accessible through the Nintendo Switch app. You can preorder it now at Target for $79.99.
You can also find it at Walmart for $79.00 and at GameStop for $79.99. Keep in mind that the price is higher than what you might be used to for video games. This is due to Nintendo's pricing strategy for Switch 2 games, which uses a varying scale. The original game was priced at $69.99, and with the Switch 2 upgrade, it now costs an additional $10. While I'm not thrilled about the price increase, the enhancements might just be worth it.
If you already own the original Switch version of the game, you can purchase the Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack separately for $10, which could save you some money if you're looking to upgrade.
For those who already own Tears of the Kingdom and are members of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the upgrade comes at no extra cost. It's included in your subscription, making it a great perk for members.
This edition includes the full original Switch game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, along with the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. The upgrade offers improved performance with faster frame rates and load times, as well as enhanced resolution and textures. The game looks and runs better on the Nintendo Switch 2 than it ever did on the original console.
From our original 10/10 review of Tears of the Kingdom: "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an unfathomable follow-up to one of the greatest games ever made, somehow improving upon it in nearly every way – be that with simple quality-of-life improvements, a genuinely exciting story, or wildly creative new building mechanics that make you rethink what is possible. It both revamps old ground and introduces vast new areas so immense it somehow makes me wonder if Breath of the Wild was actually all that big, with an almost alarming number of tasks to complete, mysteries to discover, and delightful distractions to keep you from ever reaching that place you naively thought you were headed. Nintendo has followed up a triumph with a triumph, expanding and evolving a world that already felt full beyond expectation and raising the bar ever higher into the clouds."
