EA Confirms Plans to Bring Major Franchises to Nintendo Switch 2
EA has confirmed its intention to release many of its popular titles on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. During a recent financial call, CEO Andrew Wilson highlighted key franchises like Madden NFL and EA SPORTS FC as having the potential for significant success on the new console. He also mentioned The Sims as a strong candidate, citing the previous success of My Sims and the high percentage of new players it attracted.
Wilson emphasized the opportunity to reach new players and communities with the Switch 2's launch. While specifics remain undisclosed, EA expects its established IPs to thrive on the new platform, mirroring past successes on Nintendo consoles.
The announcement of Madden and EA SPORTS FC on Switch 2 is unsurprising, but the versions remain to be seen. Previous iterations of FIFA on Nintendo Switch were "legacy" versions, but recent efforts have focused on feature parity within the rebranded EA SPORTS FC series. The Switch 2's enhanced power suggests that future EA SPORTS FC titles could offer a closer experience to their PlayStation, Xbox, and PC counterparts.
Anticipation for the Switch 2's game lineup is growing. Numerous third-party titles are rumored, including Civilization VII (with its intriguing Joy-Con mouse mode), several Nacon titles (Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, RoboCop: Rogue City), and the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong. Nintendo itself is developing a new Mario Kart, with more details expected at a Nintendo Direct in April.
