Magic: The Gathering Unveils Cinematic Universe

Hasbro has exciting news for fans of Magic: The Gathering—they're set to bring the beloved card game to screens around the world. In collaboration with Legendary Entertainment, they're crafting a shared Magic: The Gathering universe that will encompass both movies and TV shows, with the film taking the lead.

"We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering," stated the chairman of worldwide production at Legendary. This studio, renowned for blockbusters like Dune and the thrilling Godzilla films including Godzilla vs Kong, as well as Detective Pikachu, is poised to bring the same level of cinematic excellence to this new venture.

While details are still emerging, it appears that the upcoming movie and TV adaptations at Legendary will stand separate from the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series on Netflix. However, there's a chance that plans might evolve, potentially integrating the animated series into this expansive shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, a card game launched by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, has blossomed into one of the world's most cherished trading card games. Wizards of the Coast joined the Hasbro family in 1999, further expanding the game's reach and popularity.

Hasbro is no novice in adapting its products for the big screen, having successfully brought to life franchises such as G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. Currently, they have a lineup of projects in development, including new G.I. Joe films, a fresh take on Power Rangers, and even a movie centered around Beyblade.
