Rey Dau marks your first encounter with a dragon monster in Monster Hunter Wilds. This beast wields the lightning element, rendering it immune to similar attacks. However, it's notably vulnerable to water and ice. Targeting its head, which boasts a 4-star weakness, is your best bet for dealing significant damage. Alternatively, striking its wings, with a 3-star weakness, can also yield good results.
Avoid attacking its torso, as it's particularly resilient. If hitting the head proves challenging, aim for the tail instead. The legs are well-protected and less ideal for attack. When it comes to status ailments, you can use all except Stun and Paralysis, as the dragon's lightning element makes these ineffective.
To swiftly take down Rey Dau, deploy a Flash Pod. This tool momentarily stuns the monster, providing a window for precise attacks. When the dragon unleashes its lightning attack, aim for its horn, which glows bright red in Focus Mode, to inflict substantial damage.
Surviving the fight requires gear that enhances your resistance to elements. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, reduces damage and provides resistance against Lightning and Fire. Complement this with a meal that boosts your elemental resistance. Staying close to Rey Dau's legs can also help you avoid its frontal and rear attacks, making dodging easier.
Rey Dau's habit of flying between locations can be turned to your advantage. In the open plains, utilize Vine Traps on the lone tree to stun the dragon briefly. Be cautious when it returns to its nest, as it follows up with a dangerous lightning attack that can easily stun you. Take your time and avoid rushing in this area to prevent a fatal shock.

Beyond defeating Rey Dau, capturing it offers additional rewards in Monster Hunter Wilds. To capture the dragon, weaken it until it's near death, indicated by a skull icon near its icon on the mini-map. Deploy a Pitfall Trap, as Shock Traps won't work on this lightning dragon. Follow up quickly with a Tranquilizer to ensure the capture, as you only have a brief window to act.
