Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike with a Twist

Rogue Loops, an upcoming indie roguelike dungeon crawler, draws significant inspiration from Hades, mirroring its art style and core gameplay loop. However, it introduces a unique mechanic that sets it apart. While a precise release date remains unannounced, a PC release is anticipated in early 2025. A free demo is currently available on Steam, offering players a sneak peek.

The roguelike genre's recent surge in popularity has spurred numerous iterations, ranging from action-packed titles like Returnal to more traditional dungeon crawlers such as Hades and its early-access sequel. Rogue Loops falls squarely into the latter category, featuring a repeatedly traversed dungeon with randomized loot and ability upgrades, presented from a top-down perspective.

Though comparisons to Hades are inevitable given its Steam trailer and demo, Rogue Loops distinguishes itself with a key mechanic: ability upgrades come with distinct drawbacks, significantly impacting gameplay.

This mechanic shares similarities with Hades' Chaos Gates, offering powerful upgrades at the cost of detrimental effects. However, in Rogue Loops, these "curses" are more pronounced and varied, potentially impacting the entire playthrough.

The narrative centers around a family trapped in a deadly time loop. Players navigate five distinct dungeon floors, encountering unique enemies and bosses. Classic roguelike elements are present, with each run unlocking procedurally generated upgrades, enabling diverse build customization through buffs and debuffs.

While a firm release date is pending, the Steam store page lists a Q1 2025 launch window. Until then, a free demo (accessing the first floor) is available. Other roguelikes like Dead Cells and Hades 2 provide ample entertainment in the interim.
