Doug Cockle, the iconic voice of Geralt of Rivia in CD Projekt Red's Witcher games, reprises his role in Netflix's animated film, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. Unlike the live-action series, Cockle's performance wasn't adjusted to match Henry Cavill or Liam Hemsworth's portrayals, allowing him to maintain the signature gravelly voice he's cultivated over nearly two decades.

His journey began in 2005, voicing Geralt for the first Witcher game. The deep register proved challenging, requiring extensive recording sessions (eight to nine hours daily) that initially strained his vocal cords. However, through perseverance, his voice adapted, much like an athlete's muscles strengthening with training.

The release of Andrzej Sapkowski's books in English significantly impacted Cockle's performance in The Witcher 2. Reading The Last Wish provided crucial insight into Geralt's character, clarifying the developers' direction towards a more emotionally restrained portrayal. Cockle, however, embraced the opportunity to subtly infuse emotion into his performance, enriching the character's depth.

Cockle, a fan of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, deeply connected with Sapkowski's world, particularly Season of Storms, which he hopes to voice in future adaptations. He appreciates both Geralt's serious and humorous sides, finding the lighter moments, such as a campfire conversation with Jaskier, particularly engaging.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep presented a unique challenge: speaking Mermaid. The experience proved more difficult than anticipated, despite phonetic preparation.

Cockle's return to Geralt in The Witcher 4, where Ciri takes center stage, is highly anticipated. He believes shifting the narrative focus to Ciri is a clever move, aligning with events in the books. He's excited to see CD Projekt Red's vision for the next chapter, though details remain scarce.
