Gamers worldwide let out a collective groan last week when the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an uncertain future. This change came after President Trump's import tariffs caused financial markets to spiral, affecting not only the U.S. but also spreading across the border. Nintendo Canada confirmed the delay, dashing hopes of securing a pre-order through a cousin in Winnipeg.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," Nintendo of Canada stated to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.
"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

This echoes a similar statement given to IGN by Nintendo of America on April 4, although the Canadian version does not mention the new tariffs explicitly.
Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.
Despite the original pre-order launch date being tomorrow, there's still no clear timeline on when eager fans can start refreshing their browsers and double-checking their credit card details. This uncertainty leaves gamers in limbo and worried about a possible price hike from the initially announced $449.99.
Meanwhile, in other countries, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already gone live in the UK, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out rapidly. Scalpers have quickly jumped on the opportunity, listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly higher than the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
