Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG, Avowed, will run at up to 60 frames per second (fps) on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in a MinnMax interview. While she didn't elaborate on specifics, the Xbox Series S version will remain capped at 30fps, as previously announced.
Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes—a common feature allowing players to prioritize either frame rate or visual fidelity—remains unclear. The 60fps capability on Xbox Series X may be the default setting, or it might be an option within a performance mode.
Avowed launches on February 13th for those purchasing the premium edition ($89.99), while the standard edition ($69.99) will be available starting February 18th. This staggered release strategy, employed by some publishers, has already been abandoned by others, like Ubisoft.
Set in the world of Pillars of Eternity, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and agency. The narrative unfolds through intricate storylines of war, mystery, and intrigue, allowing players to build relationships and rivalries that shape their journey.
IGN's final preview lauded the game's detailed conversations, player freedom, and overall enjoyment, stating simply: "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
