Overwatch 2 is making a grand comeback to China, allowing players to dive back into the action on Future Earth starting February 19, coinciding with the launch of Season 15. This relaunch is packed with events that offer players the chance to earn rewards from Seasons 1 through 9, along with skins inspired by rich Chinese mythology.
The announcement of Overwatch 2's return to China has stirred excitement among fans. Before the official relaunch, a technical test from January 8 to 15 gave players a sneak peek at what they missed, including Overwatch: Classic and the six new heroes added since the servers closed in China during Season 2.
Following the successful technical test, Overwatch 2's game director, Aaron Keller, shared more details on Xiaohongshu (also known as RedNote). He announced a multi-week "Return to China" celebration, which will feature popular in-game events and rewards that fans have missed over the past two years. Chinese players can look forward to earning Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 before the relaunch, and from Seasons 3 to 9 through in-game events after the game becomes available again.
Keller also hinted at skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology for Season 15. While it's unclear whether these will be new or existing skins, or if they'll be exclusive to China, they might be part of a larger theme for the season, similar to the Norse mythology-inspired cosmetics in Season 14.
The anticipation won't last long, as Overwatch 2 Season 15 is scheduled to kick off on February 18, just before the game's official relaunch in China. With only a month to go, players can expect more information about Season 15 in early February.
In the meantime, global fans can enjoy the "Min 1, Max 3" 6v6 test from January 21 to February 4, featuring the classic 2-2-2 team composition. Additionally, the Lunar New Year and Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic events are set to occur before Season 15. While Chinese players may miss these events, they have their own special celebrations to look forward to upon the game's return.
