Microsoft appears poised to unveil a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster scheduled for 2026.

During the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer hinted at several upcoming titles including the new Fable, next-gen Forza, Gears of War: E-Day, and what he referred to as "the return of a foundational franchise."

While clearly referencing Halo, The Verge's Tom Warren has specifically confirmed this tease points to a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster.

Warren had previously reported on this project's development, noting its potential multi-platform release including PlayStation 5. Microsoft previously remastered the original Halo with 2011's Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, later incorporated into Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

This announcement doesn't represent an entirely new Halo title. Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) is currently developing a new Unreal Engine 5-based Halo game. In 2024, the studio released a technical preview called Project Foundry - a seven-minute demonstration showcasing what a UE5-powered Halo could look like. While primarily a tech demo, it signaled a potential fresh start for Xbox's flagship franchise following Halo Infinite's 2021 release.
