It's rare for me to express true astonishment in writing, but I think I speak for most people when I say I was shocked to learn that Tribe Nine is set to be shuttered. According to a recent news post, the servers for Tribe Nine will be shut off on November 27th, with any upcoming updates now cancelled. Additionally, the end-of-service (EOS) has been announced, and all paid Enigma Entities will be refunded, while in-game purchases will be halted.

This marks an acrimonious end for Tribe Nine, which only a couple of months ago celebrated over ten million downloads. The game, inspired by the anime series of the same name and featuring art by Danganronpa veteran Rui Komatsuzaki, offered regular ARPG gameplay alongside the unique Xtreme Baseball boss battles that fans of the series will recognize.

The unceremonious cancellation of Tribe Nine continues a troubling trend over the last few years, where numerous releases have been axed after less than a year in service. For fans of these games, it can feel disheartening to invest time and emotion into titles that face the constant threat of EOS.

ytTribelessGiven that Rui Komatsuzaki's art has also been well-received in Hundred Line -Last Defence Academy- on other platforms, there seems little justification for Tribe Nine's cancellation on this service. However, being discontinued so soon after launch might reflect poorly on developer Akatsuki Games.

With another anime-based game, Kaiju No.8: The Game, on the horizon, Akatsuki Games is likely hoping to attract fans of the existing series. Yet, casual players may be wary, given Akatsuki's track record, and hesitant to risk another short-lived experience. For fans of Tribe Nine, it's certainly not a happy Friday.

Despite this setback, there are still plenty of great releases to explore. Why not check out our latest feature on the top five new mobile games to try this week for some of our top picks?
