Mastering Rune Slayer: Essential Tips for New Players

After a long wait and a couple of bumpy launches, Rune Slayer is finally here, and it's fantastic! While incredibly fun, the game has a steep learning curve, especially for MMORPG newcomers. Fear not, this guide provides essential tips to jumpstart your adventure.

These are some key insights we wish we'd known earlier to make our early game smoother.

Don't Randomly Attack Other Players

While Rune Slayer's full-loot PvP initially caused concern, it's less brutal than expected. Death doesn't result in significant item loss, regardless of the killer. However, attacking players incurs a bounty. The higher your bounty, the more loot you drop upon death. Therefore, avoid unprovoked player attacks unless you're prepared for the consequences, or have a group for backup.

Craft Bags Immediately

Inventory and bank space are severely limited. Fortunately, crafting bags expands capacity. The initial Cotton Bag provides 10 extra slots. Gather Cotton north of Wayshire and Flax south (be cautious of southern mobs) to craft these essential items as quickly as possible.

Your Pets Don't Actually Die

Contrary to initial belief, pet death isn't permanent. After a pet reaches zero health, it has a 5-minute summon cooldown. Check this cooldown by pressing T. After the cooldown, resummon your pet using the same key. To quickly heal your pet, store and retrieve it at the stable master (you have one free slot).

Accept All Quests

The sheer volume of quests in Rune Slayer can be overwhelming. Many are simple "kill X" tasks. To streamline progression, accept every quest available, including those from job boards. Often, multiple quests can be completed simultaneously.

Craft Everything at Least Once

Prioritize crafting necessary items, but also experiment with crafting items you don't immediately need. Initial crafting often unlocks more advanced recipes. For instance, smelting Iron Ore may unlock new Iron Armor crafting options. Don't hoard materials; craft liberally.

Join a Guild

While Rune Slayer is solo-friendly, tougher enemies require teamwork. Guilds are the easiest way to find groups for challenging encounters. Use general chat or the official Rune Slayer Discord server to find a guild and tackle difficult bosses together.
