According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The expansion was set to launch this year, alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. Sources cited by Bloomberg revealed that the decision to cancel the DLC stemmed from concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered." Warner Bros. declined to comment on the report.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, which has been facing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company canceled its planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio responsible for it, Monolith Productions, as well as WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. laid off employees at Rocksteady in September of the previous year.
Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Harry Potter franchise and Hogwarts Legacy. The company has repeatedly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities" as it shifts its focus to fewer but larger franchises. The original game has been a massive success, selling over 30 million copies.
