Halma, also known as Ugolki or куточки уголки, is a captivating strategy board game that offers players a challenging and engaging experience. Originally invented in 1883 or 1884 by George Howard Monks, a thoracic surgeon at Harvard Medical School, Halma was inspired by the English game called Hoppity. This offline strategy game is designed for both two and four players, making it a versatile choice for game enthusiasts.
The playing equipment for Halma consists of a checkered board with pieces that are typically black and white for two-player games, and various colors or other distinctions for four-player games. These pieces are placed on opposing corners of the board. The primary objective of Halma is to strategically move all of one's pieces from their starting camp into the camp located in the opposing corner. Players can achieve this by moving a single piece to an adjacent open square or by jumping over one or more pieces in sequence during their turn.
Halma has seen significant updates to its artificial intelligence (AI), enhancing the gaming experience for players. Version 2020.11 introduced a completely new AI, followed by another innovative AI update in version 2021.03.10. These updates ensure that players face a more challenging and dynamic opponent, making each game session uniquely engaging.
