This educational app, the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston (KCNK) Little Bee Spelling Game, sponsored by Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) and Western Union (WU), is designed for children aged 4 to 9 to enhance their spelling skills. The app offers three engaging modes, each with ten levels of increasing difficulty, playable offline. Each level presents 15 or more words.
Learning Mode 1: A straightforward approach where children spell words letter by letter, guided by audio prompts. Incorrect letters can be easily corrected, and the word can be replayed by tapping the bee icon. Level progression requires correct spelling of all words within a level.
Learning Mode 2: This mode challenges children to unscramble the letters of a word to form the correct spelling. Similar to Mode 1, incorrect letters can be undone, and the word can be repeated. Completion requires accurate spelling of all words in a level.
Competition Mode: This mode adds a timed element. Children must spell words correctly from a jumbled set of letters, including extra, irrelevant letters. The time taken for each word is tracked, contributing to a level total. Ten random words are selected per level, encouraging speed and accuracy. A leaderboard displays completion times.
The app allows students to input their name, age, parish, and school in the settings. The game can be reset at any time. A screen capture of the leaderboard can be shared with teachers.
