The formation of Reburn, a studio comprised of former 4A Games Ukraine developers (creators of the acclaimed Metro series), has prompted 4A Games to reaffirm its dedication to the Metro franchise. This reassurance follows Reburn's announcement of their debut project, La Quimera, which sparked speculation about the future of Metro.

In an official statement, 4A Games clarified its relationship with Reburn, offering congratulations on La Quimera while simultaneously emphasizing its continued commitment to the Metro series. The statement declared: “We remain the team responsible for bringing you the beloved Metro games. Our efforts toward the next Metro installment continue in partnership with Dmitry Glukhovsky, guided by the same visionaries and talent that have shaped the series since its inception.”
Beyond the upcoming Metro sequel, 4A Games hinted at development on a completely new intellectual property (IP), though details remain under wraps. They highlighted their pride in their Ukrainian heritage and diverse team, noting that approximately 150 of their over 200 employees remain based in Kyiv, with additional teams in Sliema, Malta, and remote locations.
Regarding the organizational split, 4A Games explained: “Following the completion of Metro Exodus and its DLC, we collaborated closely with our partners at 4A Games Ukraine through outsourcing. Post-Exodus, we founded 4A Games Limited in Kyiv, absorbing roughly 50 more colleagues to sustain our momentum. Simultaneously, 4A Games Ukraine embarked on their standalone journey with La Quimera, eventually rebranding as Reburn.”
Since the 2019 release of Metro Exodus, fan anticipation for a new entry in the series has grown amidst limited updates. While spin-offs and enhanced editions like the Enhanced Edition have kept the franchise in the spotlight, many eagerly await the next chapter in Dmitry Glukhovsky's post-apocalyptic world. Supported by Embracer Group (formerly THQ Nordic), the studio initially teased a new Metro title in 2019, suggesting a vague "202X" release window before going quiet. Now, it appears that wait may soon be over.
