Age of Empires Mobile introduces new Mercenary troops feature

Ever dreamed of witnessing Joan of Arc leading Roman Centurions into battle, or Hannibal Barca deploying Japanese Samurai to sack Rome? With the latest update to Age of Empires Mobile, your wildest historical crossover fantasies can come true thanks to the new Mercenary Troops system.

Starting at level 26, players can unlock the Mercenary Camp structure, enabling them to contract and recruit powerful units from different factions. This exciting addition not only lets you field units normally locked to your faction but also allows you to unlock and upgrade technology to enhance these warriors further. Plus, you can secure your first mercenaries for free through a new live event.

The Mercenary units available include Byzantine Cataphracts, Swiss Pikemen, Persian Immortals, Indian Battle Elephants, Roman Centurions, Egyptian Chariot Archers, Japanese Samurai, and Korean Archers. Each of these units comes with tech upgrades to boost their formidable battlefield abilities.

Blood MoneyThe new Mercenary Troops system evokes memories of Total War games, where players could overwhelm foes with mercenary forces. However, this feature might be divisive, with some players worrying about balance disruptions. Only time will tell how well the system integrates into the gameplay as players get their hands on it. Who knows? We might even see unique units like the historical Landsknechts introduced in future updates. We'll just have to wait and see.
