The highly anticipated reboot of the Narnia series, directed and written by Greta Gerwig, has added the acclaimed actress Carey Mulligan to its ensemble cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan will join forces with a stellar lineup including former James Bond star Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep.
Gerwig, fresh off the success of her 2023 blockbuster "Barbie," is set to bring a fresh perspective to C.S. Lewis' iconic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. Her latest project will adapt the prequel novel, "The Magician's Nephew," which unfolds before the events of the beloved classic, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."
In this new adaptation, Carey Mulligan is slated to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig will take on the role of the titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will play a younger incarnation of the notorious White Witch. Meryl Streep lends her voice to the character of Aslan, the revered talking lion who embodies the essence of the Narnian world.
This isn't the first time Narnia has captivated audiences on the big screen. A previous trilogy of films, released between 2005 and 2010, brought to life the first three books of the series: "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," "Prince Caspian," and "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader." These films featured standout performances by Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan.
Following the phenomenal success of "Barbie," which earned eight Academy Award nominations and a win for Best Original Song, Gerwig's Narnia reboot is highly anticipated. "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew" is scheduled for release in 2026, promising to enchant a new generation of viewers with its magical storytelling and compelling cast.
