Understanding Factions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The game unfolds across chapters. The first two chapters feature the Wanderer, your playable character, acting independently. They assist Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei in various battles, participating in significant events such as the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate, without formally committing to a faction.

Chapter 3 introduces the crucial faction selection. Before this point, you'll have opportunities to familiarize yourself with each faction through battles.

Choosing Your Faction

To progress past Chapter 3, you must complete a specific number of missions for each faction: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Upon completing these, a mission requiring faction selection unlocks. Only factions with completed missions will be selectable. For example, completing Cao Cao's missions first will present a choice between Cao Cao and Liu Bei, with Liu Bei unavailable until his missions are completed. You can complete all missions before making your choice.

Your decision is permanent. The unchosen faction becomes inaccessible for the remainder of the game, preventing further sidequests and bond increases with its officers. This can impact gameplay difficulty; for instance, aligning with Liu Bei, who initially has fewer commanding officers, limits skill point acquisition opportunities from sidequests.

Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all content, create a save before choosing a faction, allowing you to replay with different allegiances.
