Rumors of Gandhi's return to the Civilization VII roster are swirling! While initially absent from the main game's launch, developers have hinted that the iconic Indian leader might be making a comeback as DLC. Read on to uncover the reasons behind Gandhi's initial exclusion.
Following an IGN interview with Civilization VII lead designer Ed Beach on February 13, 2025, a glimmer of hope emerged for Gandhi's return. While not confirmed immediately, Beach suggested the possibility of Gandhi's inclusion in future DLC.
In the interview, Beach addressed the absence of several established civilizations and leaders from the base game, including Great Britain and India. He explained, "We haven't forgotten about anyone who's been in our games before. There's a lot of discussion about the absence of Great Britain or England, for example."
The decision to exclude some familiar civilizations stemmed from the sheer number of popular choices. Beach clarified, "There are just too many popular choices, and we always want to include some fresh, exciting options. So, some things are left behind initially, but we’re always considering the bigger picture when deciding which leaders or civilizations to bring into the fold. So, there’s hope for Gandhi yet."
Given the extensive DLC history of Civilization VI, the possibility of Gandhi's eventual return to Civilization VII seems likely. However, a concrete release date or timeframe remains unconfirmed.
