Defeat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: Strategy Guide

In *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, one of the initial challenges players will encounter is the battle against Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turbans. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you defeat him effectively.

How To Fight Zhang Jiao’s First Phase

The first phase pits you in a one-on-one duel in a vast wasteland. Zhang Jiao harnesses sorcery to hurl stones at you across the arena. When you're close, he summons four stones, necessitating quick evasive maneuvers. At a distance, he doubles the stones, throwing them in pairs that you can dodge by circling him. If you find yourself near him during his stone barrage, it's crucial to create some distance to avoid significant damage.

While Zhang Jiao's attacks are primarily designed to keep you at bay, he does employ some close-range tactics. These include simple combos that you can parry and an Area of Effect (AOE) attack that repels you. Watch for him glowing white, indicating an imminent AOE; retreat to minimize damage.

As the fight progresses, Zhang Jiao will use moves enveloped in a red aura, signaling uncancelable attacks. These involve summoning a plethora of rocks to drop around him and creating several clones. The best strategy here is to retreat until his attack sequence concludes before resuming your offensive. Equip a sword for this phase, as it inflicts more damage compared to spears or gauntlets.

Keep a close eye on your health throughout the fight. With likely only four healing opportunities, depending on your upgraded skills, utilize the meat buns found in jars near the arena's entrance to replenish your health when retreating from his attacks.

How To Fight Zhang Jiao’s Second Phase

Upon unlocking Musou Rage, you'll transition into the second phase, where Zhang Jiao's Yellow Turbans join the fray. Fortunately, your own army arrives to support you, providing some relief. This is an ideal moment to heal by dashing back to the entrance for those meat buns. Be mindful of Zhang Jiao's tornadoes that can toss you around while you're engaged with his soldiers.

After thinning the ranks of his troops, Zhang Jiao will initiate a Grand Tactic. You'll need to eliminate 300 soldiers within a tight timeframe to prevent a devastating attack that could end your campaign. Additionally, Zhang Jiao will summon lightning to strike the arena. Keep an eye on the ground for closing rings, dodging when they flash. To efficiently clear the Yellow Turbans within the time limit, utilize Musou Mode, which can dispatch dozens of enemies simultaneously. Although Musou Rage Mode is available, sticking with the standard Musou Mode under these constraints is advisable.

After thwarting Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic twice, he'll re-enter the battlefield, employing the same strategies as in Phase 1. With your army's support, defeating him and concluding Chapter 1 should be manageable.

That's the strategy to conquer Zhang Jiao in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*.

*Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
