The live-action Lilo & Stitch remake has finally graced the big screen, and I find myself torn about whether or not to see it. While our review awarded it a respectable 8 out of 10, I’m hesitant to revisit the story and characters I hold dear in their original animated form. If you’re considering catching this Disney live-action flick in theaters, you’ve got options. It’s now playing at both standard and IMAX theaters across the country this weekend.
For those who prefer to wait until it hits digital platforms, you’ll need to be patient. Although you can always revisit the beloved original on Disney+ while you wait — something I fully intend to do.

Available Formats
In addition to standard screenings, the live-action Lilo & Stitch is available in IMAX and 3D formats. Some theaters also offer 4DX screenings, though these might be harder to find. You can check the Fandango listings to see if any nearby theaters are hosting 4DX events.
When Can You Watch It at Home?
If you’re not planning to see the movie in theaters, you’ll have to be patient. Other Disney live-action remakes have typically made their way to digital platforms between 45 and 65 days after their theatrical release. For instance, the recent Snow White remake landed on digital less than two months after its theater debut. Assuming similar timing, we might expect the Lilo & Stitch remake to arrive digitally in July or August. Disney seems confident in the film’s success, even hinting at potential sequels.
If you’re hoping to stream it on Disney+, however, the wait will likely be longer. New Disney movies usually hit the platform around 100 days post-theater release, though this timeline can vary. Based on past trends, we might anticipate its arrival on Disney+ in late August or early September.

To enjoy the original Lilo & Stitch in all its 2D-animated splendor, it remains available on Disney+. If you don’t already subscribe, you can rent or purchase a digital copy on Prime Video at an affordable price.
For a permanent addition to your collection, there’s also a brand-new 4K edition of the original film that launched earlier this year. It’s been quite popular, so I’d recommend snagging it for your Disney stash.
