The developers behind the PvPvE action game Dungeonborne, inspired by the acclaimed Dark and Darker, have officially announced the cessation of support and the impending closure of the game's servers. Launched with much anticipation, Dungeonborne unfortunately struggled to maintain its player base over its less-than-a-year lifespan, primarily due to stagnant player numbers and the absence of substantial updates.
While Dungeonborne's page remains visible on Steam, it has been removed from search results and can now only be accessed via a direct link. Although the developers have not publicly detailed the reasons for shutting down, it's evident that the game's dwindling player count was a significant factor. By late 2024, the game's concurrent player numbers had plummeted to a mere 200, and in the final days, this figure further decreased to just 10-15 active players.
The servers for Dungeonborne are scheduled to shut down permanently on May 28, effectively closing the chapter on this project. What started as a promising venture for fans of the genre will ultimately be remembered as a game that couldn't fulfill its early potential.
