The project is being led by Alex Garland, the acclaimed director behind Ex Machina, Annihilation, and the upcoming Civil War and Warfare. Known for his atmospheric storytelling and deep thematic exploration, Garland is poised to translate the haunting beauty and brutal intensity of Elden Ring into a compelling visual narrative.

The film will be produced by DNA Films’ Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich, alongside A Song of Ice and Fire creator George R. R. Martin and Game of Thrones co-executive producer Vince Gerardis—both of whom played key roles in shaping the lore of the original game. While it remains unclear whether FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki will be directly involved, his visionary influence on the source material is expected to remain foundational.

FromSoftware shows no signs of slowing down. In 2025, two major releases are set to expand the Elden Ring universe:

First is Elden Ring: Nightreign, a co-op action spinoff set in the shadowy realm of Limveld. Players will take on the role of Nightfarers—elite warriors tasked with preventing the rise of the Nightlord. While rooted in the same dark fantasy aesthetic, Nightreign reimagines core gameplay mechanics for a dynamic multiplayer experience. It launches on May 30th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Second is the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, a definitive version coming to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. This edition includes the full base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, four exclusive armor sets, and customizable options for all three variants of Torrent, the Spectral Steed. Though not a launch title for the new console, it promises to deliver the complete Elden Ring experience to Switch players.
