Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Release Planned
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on the PlayStation 5, according to producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. This confirmation, shared during a January 23, 2025 interview with 4Gamer, alleviates concerns among PlayStation fans following the staggered releases of previous installments.
Release Date and Development Progress:
While Square Enix remains tight-lipped about a concrete release date, Hamaguchi offered an encouraging update during a Famitsu interview on the same day. Development, initiated concurrently with FF7 Rebirth, is progressing smoothly, with a playable build confirming the game's direction by the end of 2024. Kitase expressed complete satisfaction with the finished story, promising a satisfying conclusion for fans.
Timed Exclusivity Expected:
A March 6, 2024 report from the Washington Post suggests PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the precedent set by previous games (one-year exclusivity for FF7 Remake on PS4, six months for Intergrade on PS5, and a similar timeframe for Rebirth), Part 3 is anticipated to launch exclusively on PS5 before expanding to other platforms.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift:
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's financial report from March 31, 2024 revealed declining sales in its HD title portfolio. In response, the company announced an aggressive multi-platform strategy encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This shift could lead to broader availability of future Square Enix titles, including potential releases on Xbox and Switch 2, even with their strong PlayStation partnerships.
