Civilization 7 has hit the market, and fans of the iconic strategy series are buzzing with one question on their minds: Where is Gandhi? Known for his presence in every base game of the franchise since its inception in 1991, Gandhi has become synonymous with Civilization, famously linked to the legendary (yet debunked) 'Nuclear Gandhi' bug. However, in the latest installment, Gandhi is conspicuously absent, leaving fans curious and a bit disappointed.

Seeking answers, I reached out to Ed Beach, the lead designer for Civilization 7. Beach offered a glimmer of hope to Gandhi enthusiasts, suggesting that the beloved Indian leader might make his way into the game as downloadable content (DLC). "So I would say we haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach explained. He highlighted the broader strategy behind choosing civilizations, mentioning the absence of Great Britain in the base game as another point of discussion among fans.

Beach elaborated on Firaxis’ approach to selecting civilizations, noting that even iconic ones like Mongolia and Persia were absent from the base games of previous titles. "So we always have to leave somebody out. There're just too many popular choices and we always want to have a few fresh ones that sound really new and exciting to people," he said, assuring fans that there's a long-term plan in place for integrating leaders and civilizations. This leaves room for optimism about Gandhi's eventual inclusion.

In the meantime, Firaxis is likely focusing on addressing the 'mixed' user review rating Civilization 7 has received on Steam. Community feedback has pointed to issues with the user interface, a lack of map variety, and the absence of expected features. In response, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the criticism but remained optimistic, suggesting that the dedicated Civilization audience would warm up to the game over time.
