NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, marking the end of its brief international journey. The game's service will cease on April 30th, 2025, with in-app purchases (IAPs) and downloads already disabled.
Originally launched in Japan in 2021 to great success, Gran Saga's global version debuted in November 2024. Unfortunately, it struggled to maintain its momentum and will close after just six months.
The decision to shut down stems from financial instability and challenges in sustaining the service. Despite a strong start in Japan, Gran Saga found it difficult to compete in the crowded global market. The gacha RPG genre is dominated by well-established games with loyal followings, making it tough for newcomers to break through without a unique selling point.
Gran Saga's closure is part of a broader trend of gacha RPGs shutting down. Just last month, My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero closed, and several others have also succumbed to the pressures of an oversaturated market. Players often stick to familiar titles, leaving less room for new or niche games to thrive.
For those who made recent purchases, you can request refunds until May 30th. However, refunds may not be possible if the items have been used or due to other store policies.
If you enjoyed your time in Ethprozen, this farewell is bittersweet, but it's an increasingly common occurrence in the mobile gaming world.
