The release of Trailer 2 for *Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6)* has propelled the long-running GTA 6 mapping project into high gear. Garza, a key figure overseeing the project's Discord server, which now boasts nearly 400 members, shared with IGN, "It really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The excitement is palpable as the community delves into the wealth of new information provided by the trailer, marking a significant turning point for the mapping enthusiasts.

The GTA 6 Mapping Discord, which originated in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, has been focused on creating the most accurate map of the game's world. Prior to Trailer 2, their efforts were based on those leaks and the first trailer released in December 2023. However, the latest trailer has rendered the most recent map version, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, outdated. The new content from Trailer 2 promises to enhance the accuracy and detail of the community's mapping efforts significantly.

Rockstar's second trailer not only confirmed plot details and introduced new characters but also released 70 new screenshots, showcasing various explorable locations within the fictional state of Leonida, GTA 6's rendition of Florida. Key locations highlighted include Vice City, the game's take on Miami, the tropical Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the iconic Mount Kalaga along the state's northern border.

The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of everything shown, aiming to match these fictional spaces with their real-world inspirations. Their goal is to refine the map further, with DuPz0r planning to release an updated version that fans hope will provide the clearest picture yet of what to expect from GTA 6 when it launches in May 2026.

The mapping project's future efforts hinge on any additional assets Rockstar might release, such as gameplay footage, which could offer even more insights. The true test of the community's accuracy will come only when the game is released, allowing for a direct comparison between the fan-made map and the actual game world.

However, the project faces the looming threat of intervention by Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company. The precedent was set in March when a modder, who had created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 based on the mapping project's work, was forced to halt their project following a takedown notice from Take-Two. Garza expressed mild concern about potential action but noted that the mapping project does not showcase leaked material directly and might be seen as generating positive interest in the game. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that a cease and desist order would be respected if received.

As the mapping community continues its work, fans can explore more about GTA 6, including all the details uncovered so far and the fan theories sparked by Trailer 2.
