Main quests can be intense, particularly when you're navigating unfamiliar areas under a time crunch. In *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, the quest "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is a perfect example of this high-stakes gameplay. Here’s a detailed walkthrough to help you save Hans before the bell tolls its final chime.
The quest "For Whom the Bell Tolls" begins immediately after completing "Wedding Crashers." You find yourself imprisoned in Trosky with Hans, who is slated for execution after the bell tolls 12 times. Fortunately, Henry is given the opportunity to work as a laborer around the castle instead of staying imprisoned, providing a window to rescue Hans.

Your first task is to haul sacks to a shed, which is a mandatory part of the quest. Locate the sacks on the wagon, carry them to the shed next to the fenced area, and drop them inside. Repeat this process until the objective is complete.

Next, assist the blacksmith, who reluctantly agrees to let you make a horseshoe. Head to the forge area through the archway opposite the blacksmith. Gather the necessary materials and craft the horseshoe. After the blacksmith approves it, take the horseshoe to the stables following the path where you hauled the sacks.

After delivering the horseshoe, it's time to aid Hans. Return to the forge and retrieve a lockpick from the red pot on the shelves. Then, speak to Fanka, the cook standing nearby. By offering to help her, you gain access to the noble's kitchen without needing to lockpick it. This not only boosts your reputation but also allows you to obtain food whenever needed.

In the kitchen, you'll notice the chamberlain suffering from pain. Engage with him and try to persuade him to let you brew a Digestive Potion. If successful, you gain access to the surgeon's workshop. If not, you'll need to sneak in.

If you couldn't convince the chamberlain, use food from the kitchen to distract the guard near the non-noble kitchen and sneak into the surgeon's workshop. Otherwise, proceed directly to the workshop with the chamberlain's permission. Ascend the stairs opposite the forge to reach the kitchen, then head upstairs to the surgeon's workshop. Use the ingredients in the chest to craft both the Fever Tonicum and, if applicable, the Digestive Potion.

If you're helping the chamberlain, return to him with the Digestive Potion to secure access to Thomas's room. For those sneaking through, navigate back to the noble's kitchen and climb the stairs, avoiding guards by staying crouched. Distract the guard at the bottom of the stairs leading to Thomas's room with a pebble, then sneak past him to reach Thomas.
In Thomas's room, find Adele caring for him. Give her the Fever Tonicum to trigger the concluding cutscene of the quest. Successfully helping Thomas before the 12 bells toll enhances your reputation, though the quest's outcome remains the same regardless.
That's how to navigate and complete "For Whom the Bell Tolls" in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*. Follow these steps to ensure you save Hans in time and enhance your standing in the game.
