The excitement surrounding today's Nintendo Direct was palpable for some gaming communities, like the fans of Tomodachi Life, but it left others, such as the Hollow Knight: Silksong enthusiasts, in a familiar state of disappointment. The absence of a new trailer for the eagerly awaited sequel during the showcase has once again sparked a flurry of memes and "silkposts" across the Silksong subreddit and community Discord, where anticipation and jest mingle in equal measure.

The Silksong community's rollercoaster of emotions isn't new. Last year, back-to-back Nintendo Directs left them reeling, and earlier this year, a seemingly innocuous photo of chocolate cake led to a wild goose chase for an ARG that never materialized. It's a testament to the community's resilience and sense of humor that they continue to engage, even if it's hard to discern from the outside whether the disappointment is genuine or part of the fun.

However, the upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2nd holds a special significance. Hollow Knight gained much of its acclaim on the Nintendo Switch, forging a strong association with Nintendo's platform. The next showcase, rumored to unveil the Nintendo Switch 2 along with its launch titles, presents a golden opportunity for Silksong to make a grand re-debut. Amidst the expected array of first-party games, Silksong fans are clinging to the hope that their beloved game will finally take center stage, signaling that it's ready for release.

Despite the anticipation, the Silksong community might be bracing for yet another letdown. Recent hints, like a mention in an Xbox Wire post about indie games and backend updates to the game's Steam listing, suggest that a release announcement could be on the horizon. Yet, the community has been down this road before, with countless instances of getting overhyped only to be let down.

In the midst of all this speculation, one thing remains clear: Team Cherry's marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, confirmed in January that the game is indeed real, in development, and on track for release. Until then, the Silksong faithful will continue to dream of a world where they can finally dive into the long-awaited sequel.

As we approach April 2nd, the Silksong community is ready to don their clown makeup once more, holding onto hope while preparing for any outcome.
