Housemarque has thrilled fans with the announcement of Saros, the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2022 roguelite shooter, Returnal. Featuring Rahul Kohli, Saros is set to launch in 2026 exclusively for the PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro.

The game was unveiled during the PlayStation State of Play, and it unmistakably carries the signature style of Housemarque. In Saros, players will assume the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a quest for truth on a perilous, ever-changing planet plagued by an eclipse and at least one formidable entity. The tagline "come back stronger" echoes the essence of roguelikes, while the display of fireballs hints at Housemarque's affinity for bullet-hell gameplay.

Creative Director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach. While it introduces a fresh single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action framework established by Returnal. However, Saros introduces significant gameplay differences, particularly in terms of permanent resources and progression. Although the world transforms with each player's death, players can now permanently enhance their arsenal of weapons and suits.

Housemarque promises more details later this year, including an extended look at the gameplay. For a comprehensive overview of all the announcements from today's PlayStation State of Play, be sure to check out our detailed recap [ttpp].
