Despite efforts to keep details under wraps, EA's upcoming untitled Battlefield game has leaked online, with numerous videos and screenshots surfacing from its closed playtesting. These leaks, which surfaced despite non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) signed by participants, showcase various aspects of the game, including its modern setting as previously hinted by Vince Zampella.
A quick browse through the Battlefield subreddit reveals a variety of gameplay elements, from intense firefights to the game's signature destructible environments. New mechanics such as the ability to hang off vehicles and drag wounded teammates to safety have also been highlighted, adding fresh dynamics to the gameplay.
Surprisingly, EA has taken a relatively relaxed approach to these leaks. Unlike most publishers who are quick to issue takedowns to protect their intellectual property, EA has not yet moved to remove the leaked content. This could be due to the positive reception the leaks have received, in stark contrast to the lukewarm response to Battlefield 2042.
Players have expressed enthusiasm about the game's potential, with comments praising the improved animations, impressive destruction effects, and overall gameplay experience, even in its pre-alpha state. One player noted, "I am scared to say that but this game is shaping up very damn well. I hope there are no catches…" Another added, "The animations of the weapons moving around while running / doing anything look better than 2042 to me."
The excitement extends to the game's sound design and destruction mechanics, with one player exclaiming, "Dude, even in a pre-alpha state, the explosions, bullets, and projectiles whizzing by, buildings crumbling down, dust kicking up. This has so much potential!" Another commented, "I can't get over how good the sounds and the destruction look at alpha."
EA anticipates launching the new Battlefield game within the fiscal year 2026, which spans from April 2025 to March 2026. Following the first official unveiling last month, it was confirmed that the game will feature a return to a traditional, single-player, linear campaign, a feature that was notably absent in Battlefield 2042 and has been eagerly anticipated by fans.
