Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision on mid-season player rank resets following significant player feedback. Read on to learn about the changes and upcoming developments.

Marvel Rivals Reverses Mid-Season Rank Reset Plan

Dev Talk 11: Seasonal Rank Adjustments Revised

Marvel Rivals has retracted its previous plan for mid-season rank resets announced in Dev Talk 10. The announcement, made via the official Marvel Rivals Twitter (X) account, follows considerable player backlash. Dev Talk 10 outlined a system that would reset player ranks four divisions lower every 45 days (mid-season). Players voiced concerns that this system was discouraging, particularly for those striving to climb the ranks.

Dev Talk 11 clarifies that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their end-of-first-half-season rank and score. However, the end-of-season rank reset remains, dropping players six divisions.

Human Torch, The Thing, and More Still Coming

Despite the reversal on the mid-season reset, other updates are proceeding as planned. The arrival of new heroes Human Torch and The Thing is still on track, expanding the roster to 39 heroes. NetEase Games continues to plan on releasing two new playable characters per season, with each season lasting three months.

Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above remain unchanged. Players achieving Gold rank will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor (for Grandmaster and above), will be awarded at the end of the season.

Balance adjustments are also planned following the mid-season update, though specifics are yet to be revealed.

Responsive Community Engagement

The swift response to player concerns is noteworthy. Marvel Rivals addressed the backlash within hours of posting Dev Talk 10, immediately releasing Dev Talk 11 to address the issue. The developers emphasized their commitment to community feedback, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"

The Marvel Rivals mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Visit our Marvel Rivals page for the latest game information.
