Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing details for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accessories. While the console's price remains unchanged, there have been significant shifts in the cost of accessories, prompting early adopters to reconsider their pre-order decisions.

The base model of the Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $449.99, with the bundle including Mario Kart World priced at $499.99. The popular kart racer game remains a standalone purchase at $79.99, and the new title, Donkey Kong Bananza, is set at $69.99.

However, the pricing for accessories has seen a broad increase. Here’s a detailed breakdown:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99

In their announcement, Nintendo stated that the price adjustments for Switch 2 accessories are due to changes in market conditions. Notably, high-value items such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera have seen a consistent $5 increase, while the Switch 2 Dock Set has increased by $10, now priced at $119.99 from its previous $109.99.

The increased cost of a Joy-Con 2 Pair, now nearing a triple-digit price tag, has left many prospective buyers surprised and concerned about the overall expense. However, there is a silver lining: many accessories from the original Nintendo Switch are compatible with the Switch 2. According to Nintendo's support site, original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro Controller can be wirelessly paired with the new console, although the former cannot be directly attached. Additionally, classic controllers like those for the Super Nintendo and N64 will still work with compatible games on the Switch 2.

Social media is abuzz with discussions about Switch 1 accessory compatibility and the potential use of third-party controller options. While these alternatives may lack some features like the C-button or the ability to wake up the console, they could be a cost-saving choice for some Switch 2 buyers.

Nintendo has also cautioned that future price adjustments for any of their products might occur based on market conditions. This offers a glimmer of hope for those who find the current prices a bit steep, especially knowing that existing Pro controllers can still be utilized.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will open on April 24, 2025, giving fans a chance to secure their new console despite the adjustments in accessory pricing.
