Nintendo Switch Games Upgraded for Switch 2: Breath of the Wild, Metroid Prime 4

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly its entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be playable on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a select group of games are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring special upgrades. This includes beloved titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each of these Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games will offer unique benefits. Super Mario Party: Jamboree, the first game showcased, introduces an upgrade called "Jamboree TV," which enhances gameplay with mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble," and integration with a new camera accessory.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will benefit from enhanced resolution, improved framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, these games will feature a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance to help players locate Shrines and Koroks, and allows sharing of creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, along with improved graphics and framerates.

New releases, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also receive upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will boast better resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Additionally, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, allowing owners of the original Switch versions to enhance their games.

The Direct also highlighted third-party titles receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7, which will support mouse controls, and Street Fighter 6, featuring Switch 2-exclusive game modes.

Curiosity about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games began last week with a webpage mentioning these games in a footnote related to the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system. The footnote clarified that these games cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
