Capcom Unveils Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom recently showcased fresh gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play presentation, finally confirmed the game's protagonist: the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
The trailer highlighted the game's dynamic sword combat and imposing enemies. While still over two years away, the visuals are impressive.
The game casts Miyamoto Musashi in a leading role, showcasing not only his unmatched swordsmanship but also his mischievous and humorous side. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game appearance is reportedly modeled after Toshiro Mifune, the renowned Japanese actor who famously portrayed Musashi in several samurai films.
The setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
