Peacemaker Season 2 Release Date Revealed with New Footage

DC Studios boss James Gunn has officially announced that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. In a recent tweet, Gunn shared his excitement, calling the season premiere "one of my favorite things ever." The tweet also included a brief snippet of new footage featuring John Cena in action, smirking at the camera amidst a fiery backdrop. In the clip, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now."

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the start of Gunn’s rebooted DCU. This makes Peacemaker Season 2 the third installment in the new DCU, after last year's Creature Commandos TV series and this summer's Superman movie.

The new DCU, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, aims to distance itself from the critically panned DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some elements from the old universe will carry over into the new one. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, with Season 1 existing in the now-defunct DCEU, and Season 2 being part of the new DCU.

Gunn has previously mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although it's not entirely clear which aspects will transition from the DCEU to the DCU. He has confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return, with John Cena reprising his lead role, joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has stated that the events of Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after those of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's storyline even influencing Peacemaker's narrative.
