Pirate Software has been expelled from the renowned World of Warcraft streamer guild, OnlyFangs, following a disastrous run in Dire Maul North. This dungeon was recently introduced to the World of Warcraft Anniversary servers, sparking a series of unfortunate Hardcore deaths within the guild.
Prior to the official launch of Hardcore servers in August 2023 by Blizzard, the gaming community had already embraced the challenge of zero-death runs. However, the introduction of the Anniversary servers in November 2024 reinvigorated interest in World of Warcraft Classic, overshadowing the original Classic servers with their dwindling populations. These new servers have seen numerous Hardcore players meet their demise, while a select few have successfully reached level 60 under stringent conditions. Among the recent casualties are Sara and Snupy, whose deaths led to the banishment of Pirate Software from OnlyFangs.
Guild Master Sodapoppin confirmed Pirate Software's removal via a Discord statement, highlighting that a significant number of guild members felt uneasy continuing to play with him after the incident. The trouble began during a Dire Maul North run when the group inadvertently pulled a boss before clearing a pack of Gordok ogres. When a party member suggested retreating to reset the enemies, Pirate Software chose to abandon the group during their escape. Despite the possibility of remaining in the guild under typical OnlyFangs rules, Pirate Software's refusal to acknowledge his role in the deaths of Sara and Snupy sealed his fate. The incident, which includes some strong language, can be viewed here.
The primary grievance against Pirate Software was his unwillingness to accept responsibility for the two Hardcore deaths, particularly for not effectively utilizing crowd control abilities. In a post-run analysis, Twitch streamer Sodapoppin noted that Pirate Software could have employed Blizzard rank 1 to slow the enemies, conserving mana in the process. Additionally, fellow OnlyFangs member Mizkif mentioned that Pirate Software's expulsion was also influenced by threats made to other streamers post-incident. Pirate Software took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with how the situation was managed.
Since the guild's reformation on the Anniversary server Doomhowl, several members have faced expulsion, prompting speculation that some may form their own groups. With Blizzard continuing to update World of Warcraft Classic with patches true to the Vanilla experience, the OnlyFangs community may encounter further challenges as new dungeons and raids are introduced.
