A live-action Power Rangers series is reportedly in the works for Disney+, according to The Wrap. The project is set to be helmed by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the showrunners behind the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. They are in discussions to write, showrun, and produce the new Power Rangers series under 20th Century TV.

Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers franchise, aims to revitalize the brand for a new generation while retaining its existing fanbase. This move follows Hasbro's acquisition of the franchise from Saban Properties in 2018 for $522 million. At the time, Hasbro's chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, highlighted the brand's "tremendous upside potential" across various platforms, including toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming, and entertainment.

The original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series, which debuted in the '90s, became a cultural phenomenon, captivating young audiences with its teenage superheroes and their iconic mechs that could combine into a giant robot.

The announcement of the Disney+ series comes after the unsuccessful 2017 Power Rangers movie reboot, which attempted a darker, grittier take on the franchise but failed to perform at the box office, leading to the cancellation of planned sequels and the subsequent sale to Hasbro.

In addition to the Power Rangers project, Hasbro is also developing other high-profile series, including a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms and an animated Magic: The Gathering series, both in development at Netflix, along with plans for a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe.
