Atlus finally unveiled Persona 4 Revival at yesterday's Xbox Game Showcase, confirming the long-rumored remake is indeed in the works. However, the 40-second reveal trailer left some fans underwhelmed.
Criticism emerged regarding the visual quality, with fans pointing to the graphics, color palette, animations, and lighting. Others expressed disappointment over the lack of concrete details like a release window or confirmation of a Nintendo Switch 2 version.
"The graphics look like default Unreal Engine assets, honestly," remarked one player. "It almost has a fan-made feel, no offense," to which another responded, "That was a seriously underwhelming trailer."
Given that the remake's existence was one of the industry's worst-kept secrets, some speculated the teaser was merely a quick acknowledgment of its development.
"This feels like a 'fine, here you go' kind of trailer," commented one fan. Another added, "It seems like they threw this together last-minute, especially after news broke that the original voice actors aren't returning. I can picture them rushing to marketing the same day to put a quick clip together."
Following the reveal, P-Studio director Kazuhisa Wada took to social media to reassure the community, stating Atlus is "actively preparing for the future of the Persona series as a whole."
"We are thrilled to announce Persona 4 Revival and look forward to sharing more details in due course," Wada wrote. "Persona 4 is a special title that has led to numerous spin-offs like the anime, Persona 4 Arena, Ultimax, and Dancing All Night. It holds a significant place in Atlus's history and in my own heart. We are pouring all our passion and love into this project, confident it will feel fresh and surprising for both newcomers and longtime fans. We can't wait to share it with everyone."

Wada continued, "Furthermore, as a studio, we are actively laying the groundwork for the Persona series' future development. We are committed to meeting the expectations of our global fanbase and progress is steady." He concluded by thanking fans for their support and teasing them to "stay tuned" for future updates.
We awarded the original Persona 4 a 9/10 in our review, praising it as "a significant improvement over its predecessors, offering a deeper dungeon-crawling and social link experience that remains highly engaging." The enhanced Persona 4 Golden has since become the definitive way to play on modern platforms, though fans have long wished for a Nintendo Switch port after years of requests.
Persona 4 Revival is confirmed for Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC, with a day-one launch on Xbox Game Pass. For more announcements, see everything revealed at the June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase.
