*R.E.P.O.*, the thrilling co-op horror game that hit the market in February, has captured the hearts of over 200,000 PC gamers. But the burning question on many fans' minds is: will *R.E.P.O.* make its way to consoles? Here's the latest scoop on that front.
As it stands, *R.E.P.O.* is exclusively available on PC, with no confirmed plans for a console release. The game's developer, semiwork, has been tight-lipped about any potential console versions, focusing instead on perfecting the game's multiplayer experience. They are currently grappling with significant challenges related to enhancing multiplayer mechanics without making the game a breeding ground for cheats.
"The main issue with matchmaking lobbies is hackers. But the issue with an anti-cheat system is that you’re ruining the experience for everyone who has made mods, because mods don’t work with an anti-cheat system. And we don’t want that," the developer shared with PCGamer. This complex issue needs resolution before any thoughts of a console port can even be entertained.
While there are examples of PC-only games like *Mouthwashing* eventually making it to consoles, it's worth noting that *Mouthwashing* is a single-player game, which simplifies the transition. Games like *Lethal Company* and *Content Warning*, which share a similar concept of evading monsters, have also remained PC-exclusive. The developers of *Content Warning* had considered a console release around this time last year but cited technical difficulties as a barrier. Since then, there has been no further news on a console version for *Content Warning*.
So, to answer the question of whether *R.E.P.O.* will come to consoles, it appears that semiwork is not currently interested in pursuing a console release. Their priority remains refining the multiplayer aspects of the PC version.
